Kat Stacks and Response to “Whore”

I’ve been grappling with the same thoughts that Andrea brought to light in her post “Whore”. She poses the question: Is there really anything wrong with being a whore? In agreement with Andrea, I do not think there is anything inherently wrong with getting money in exchange for sex if that is by choice. Now this is a very iffy and touchy statement because the worth of a female body cannot be measured by a particular dollar amount. The intense connection both physically and emotionally that occurs during sex goes far beyond than just a business transaction. But then again when thinking about Andrea’s point isn’t a moment of liberation when a woman has the choice to decide what to do with her body. As I continued to think about this idea of prostitution, I could not help but bring up World Star Hip Hop celebrity Kat Stacks (click here to learn more about Kat Stacks). Kat Stacks is a professional groupie and prostitute. She ran away from home to New York at the age of 15 with her pimp-boyfriend. She is a victim of mental and physical abuse. She is most known for her videos posted to World Star Hip Hop where she details her sexual escapades with high profile music artists for example Soulja Boy, Lil Twist, Lil Wayne and Nelly. She receives a lot of backlash from her videos, but she remains full of pride. Now I obviously don’t agree with many of the lifestyle choices of Kat Stacks but to some extent it is her choice. She is really only doing what she wants. She now has the financial stability to “retire” but she chooses to continue. She has taken ownership of her body in spite of the negative response she receives from her actions. And isn’t that something to be respected? One of the many downfalls of this argument is that she has made a career of her promiscuity and I riding the wave of fame from her celebrity partners. But overall should we judge Kat Stacks because of her choice of profession? Isn’t it her decision as a woman to decide what to do with her body and should we look down on her for her choice of profession?
