Jen mentioned in class on Thursday that the film Mean Girls is a perfect example of the idea that if you kneel down enough times, you will believe. Cady Heron, aka Lindsay Lohan, is presented to us as an innocent figure and develops into the leader of a pack of teens that worship unreasonable body types and the ideals of a true clique. E! True Hollywood Story featured the film as a trendsetter among
Hollywood and the rest of the country for cliquey behavior, citing examples of heightened “cliquey-ness”. It is as if the teens of
America knelt down before this film each time they saw it. And, judging from its box office success, those teens knelt down over and over again. Tina Fay, the film’s writer, was attempting to expose the injustices of teen life, but she seems to have reinforced them.
